Earlier this year, we published a comprehensive 24-month roadmap detailing the evolution of Looked After Child Limited. That roadmap included a fundamental shift: transitioning into a formal Community Interest Company (CIC) by 2028 to legally lock our assets for the public benefit.
As we have progressed through the initial phases of this massive architectural rebuild, our operational reality has brought a new perspective. Today, we are announcing a strategic revision to that roadmap: we are temporarily stepping back from the legal CIC transition to remain a fully independent initiative.
Here is a transparent look at why this decision was made and what it means for the future of our platform.
Mission Over Bureaucracy
Building a national institution requires an immense amount of time, focus, and energy. During our initial audits and infrastructure planning, it became evident that executing a formal CIC registration—alongside its heavy statutory reporting, compliance, and corporate administrative requirements—would divert critical bandwidth away from our actual frontline work.
Our priority is, and always will be, the social care sector.
By pausing the corporate restructuring and maintaining our independence, we retain ultimate operational agility. This allows us to focus 100% of our resources on developing clinical guides, expanding our training infrastructure, and building out new tools, rather than managing corporate red tape. We are choosing immediate impact over administrative architecture.
What Changes on the Roadmap?
The legal mechanism is paused, but the philosophy remains exactly the same.
- The Asset Lock Philosophy: While we are not implementing the statutory CIC "Asset Lock" at this time, our moral commitment remains unwavering. Our library of clinical guides, lived-experience narratives, and professional tools will continue to be freely accessible to the professionals, children, and care leavers who rely on them. We are exploring independent, self-sustaining models to ensure these resources never sit behind a paywall.
- The Timeline: Looked After Child Limited will continue to operate as your fully functional home for resources without the looming 2028 corporate switchover date.
What Remains Unchanged?
The structural and safeguarding evolutions we promised are still moving forward at full speed.
- The Digital Safeguarding (The Vault): Phase 5 of our original roadmap—migrating the Founder’s raw, unedited "Expert by Experience" chronologies to a highly secure, gated personal site—is already underway. Protecting vulnerable youth from unshielded trauma content remains our paramount duty.
- The Three Languages: We are still committed to the "Universal Translator" concept. We will continue to build specialized hubs so that professionals, youth, and care leavers can all access the exact same core truths in a language tailored to their specific needs and emotional safety.
The Evolution Continues
We remain deeply committed to radical transparency and building this ecosystem in public. Pausing the CIC transition is simply a tactical maneuver to ensure we stay lean, independent, and entirely focused on the work that actually matters: equipping professionals, protecting children, and empowering care leavers.
